WHERE TO BUY

A fundamental part of our training program for beginning farmers is the actual growing of food. To deepen their experience, this food is processed and sold so that students experience the satisfaction of seeing the fruits of their labor go onto family plates and so they can get feedback from those who buy their produce. Also of note, when you purchase from the OFS and our students, you are helping to offset the cost of their tuition. Without the revenue from what they grow, student tuition would quadruple!

Students and Staff at the Organic Farm School work hard to propagate, cultivate, harvest, and process nutrient-dense, super fresh, organic produce for you! It is by doing this work that skills are honed and critical thinking is sharpened. Further, as you purchase and then eat the food they grow, you offer them feedback. In the most real way, when you purchase food from the OFS, you participate in the training of farmers!

We offer a “Pop Up” Farm Stand at the Farm each Wednesday, April 24 - October 30, from 2-5pm. We look forward to seeing you there! Bring a friend!

Students learn how to manage a small flock of meat birds while at the Organic Farm School - to understand how much time, attention, and money goes into having such a flock, to observe the positive soil impacts from having poultry integrated into a vegetable operation, and to weigh the financial pros and cons of adding meat to a farm business. You get to benefit from their learning as well, when you purchase this pasture raised chicken (not certified organic, but raised using certified organic feed and access to fresh pasture).

We raise the chickens in two batches, one harvested on June 27 and the second harvested on October 10.

Certainly, we will have processed birds for sale the day after each of these harvest dates (you’ll need to reserve these before harvest date), but we have learned that it’s easier on you and us if you purchase four (4) birds at once in a Chicken CSA.

You get two (2) birds from each harvest, June and October, at $126/share.

OFS is a proud member and supporter of the WIG Cooperative. The Food Hub is an online marketplace where customers can browse and purchase products from over 90 local and regional producers. Shoppers can select from a diverse array of goods, including vegetables, flowers, meat and seafood, dairy, baked goods, pantry staples, prepared food, bath and body products, and more. All sources are identified so customers know the farms and producers they are supporting. To learn more and to order fresh produce from OFS, visit the WIG website.

South Whidbey’s Sunday farmers market, a family-friendly event running April-October (visit their website for exact start and end dates), featuring live music and educational activities for the community. S.W. Tilth encourages regenerative, organic and GMO-free growing methods. The market accepts Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) cards and offers SNAP market match currency. Located just off Highway 525 at 2812 Thompson Road.

During the growing season, shoppers generally can find OFS produce at Payless, in Freeland, and The Star Store, in Langley.
