SUMMER BLOCKS
Summer Blocks are one month programs running from May through September. They are designed to be helpful for:
those who are in the early stages of considering farming as a profession,
those who have done significant online or classroom learning and find they want additional field experience,
or those who simply seek to better understand how vegetables go from seed to table.
Participation in one of these Summer Blocks is highly suggested for those who wish to apply for the year-round Core Program.
The cost is $750/month.
Learning:
Participants learn the overall workflow of a community-scaled annual vegetable production farm. There is no classroom component — all learning is experiential, in the field. Participants shadow our core students, learning how to transplant, weed, move irrigation, and harvest crops, so should be prepared for a full month of physical and outdoor work.
Housing:
Housing is on-site in 4-season tents. Participants can apply for a single month, or a series of months and will have access to the kitchen and pantry shared with Core Students.
Applying:
There is an application process and interview required for participation. Acceptance criteria include:
Depth of interest in learning about community scaled farming,
Physical/emotional/intellectual readiness for the work,
Ability to follow direction
Comfort with tent platform accommodations
Current Covid vaccination and tetanus shot.
