Judy comes from a long line of farmers and tradespeople, but is neither. With a background in natural history (B.A. from the University of Washington) and organizational psychology (M.A. from Antioch University, Seattle), her role at the Farm is to hold the BIG PICTURE of what we are trying to do - which is to cultivate a new generation of farmers and more communities aware of their food system and supportive of farmers. Prior to joining the OFS team, she worked for almost a decade with WSU Island County Extension, starting as the Island County Noxious Weed Control Coordinator, then moved through roles of Beach Watcher Outreach Coordinator, 4-H Program Coordinator, and ultimately, Acting Director. These days her work focuses on developing the overall purpose, mission and scope of the program, and making sure it has strong recruitment, outreach, and fundraising efforts to support it. Her favorite task is talking with trainees, with staff, and with the community, connecting them and helping to tell their stories around food and farming.
When she’s not doing all of this, to be honest, she's thinking about all of this. But she can also be found out taking photographs, using those photographs to make notebooks, spending time with her very patient partner, John, and trying to find time to visit her family in Texas.
