Poultry Processing
What will your learn?
This workshop will take you through the entire process of chicken harvesting and processing. Mindy will begin by guiding you through the whole process from the killing cone to packaging. You will learn the most ethical way to harvest a chicken, how to scald, pluck, and to eviscerate, chill, then to pack up your birds. This will be a hands-on workshop where you can choose to jump between stations or stick with one job depending on your comfortability.
There will be blood and guts so please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty or rain gear that can be easily rinsed off. OFS will provide knives and gloves and other necessary equipment.
Who is your instructor?
Mindy has been working with animals for several years. She worked on a ranch in eastern Washington for nearly 10 years, working with horses, pigs, goats and poultry. In 2022 she joined the Organic Farm School as a student and realized the need and potential for a butchering business on the island. In 2023 she attended her first chicken processing workshop and intends to continue educating people on processing animals.
